Face Republic Pureprep Trio | Review

It’s not often that I encounter skincare that is relatively cheap, effective and comparable to some internationally known products in the market that I get impressed right off the bat. It’s not entirely impossible either to accomplish that because sometimes, a brand just needs to listen to their consumers to find out what they want. And that’s what Face Republic has done to come up with these products. They invited me and a few other bloggers back in 2018 to talk about our skincare preferences, and in doing so, they were able to come up with the Pureprep Trio.

Pureprep Trio is a clean, customizable and compatible skincare routine by FaceRepublic, made in Korea without any alcohol, paraben, benzophenone, chlorphenesin, or fragrance — a great way to start your #skincareresolutions.

The Pureprep Trio consists of 3 items all in 160 ml bottles which have a very simple design. They are all unscented and have short ingredient lists. The reason why it took me so long to post my review of these is because I wanted to test them out when my skin would become sensitive. And after using them for months and with other products, I came to the conclusion that these indeed were perfect for episodes for when my skin would become sensitive.

Their cleansing water is one of my favorites at the moment. I always prefer using one in the mornings as my first cleanse and this was nothing short of enjoyable. It has a thin and watery consistency that doesn’t leave any stickiness behind. Instead, it cleans the skin and gets it ready for the next skincare step even if I don’t follow thru with a second cleanser.

From the ingredients list, the ones to take not of are Poloxamer 184, panthenol, soybean seed extract, panthenol and tocopherol (vitamin E). Poloxamer 184 is a synthetic polymer that’s half-oil and half-water, forming micelles and acting as a mild cleansing agent. Soybean seed extract is as an antioxidant and together with vitamin E, defending the skin against free radical damage.

The exfoliating toner is one of the mildest I’ve encountered. It also has a watery consistency and doesn’t have residue when absorbed. I usually avoid exfoliating the area around my mouth when I have lip eczema because that part of my face stings when any actives are applied. When I use this though, there’s no stinging or any redness. However, I noticed this takes its time to smooth out the skin, specially when clearing out acne or comedones so don’t expect to see immediate results. On the positive side, that also attests as to how suitable this is to sensitive skin.

This has Chondrus crispus extract, which is a red algae with antioxidants and hydrating properties extracts. The AHA component is derived from sugarcane extract while the BHA is in the form of salicylic acid. It also has lactobionic acid, which is a polyhydroxy acid (PHA). PHA’s functions similarly with AHA’s but they are less sensitizing making them better suited for those with sensitive skin. Other notable ingredients are panthenol, sodium hyaluronate and tocopherol.

Lastly, their pH-balancing toner is at best very comparable to other ph-balancing toners that have come before it. Consistency-wise, this doesn’t really compare to water as it has more of a slip on the skin. It lightly hydrates but given that I have a dehydrated skin, I need to apply it in multiple layers.

The star ingredients of this toner are panthenol, sodium hyaluronate, allantoin, citric acid and tocopherol. Both panthenol and sodium hyaluronate are humectants that draw and replenish the moisture in the skin while allantoin is a skin-soothing agent. Citric acid, an AHA, is added to adjust the pH of the product and make it slightly acidic.

All in all, I think this set holds a lot of promise especially for those with sensitive skin types. I give these my TWO THUMBS UP and I know for sure that I will repurchase these on my own. I will even recommend them to anyone who’s just starting to get serious about their skincare routine and on a budget.

These are sold separately but you can avail of this trio as a set on my Charis store. They are also available in Shopee, BeautyMNL I do hope Face Republic will expand on this sensitive skin-friendly line that will eventually include a serum, moisturizer and sunscreen.
