Althea A’Bloom Meringue Puffs, BHA Blackhead Blaster & Sheet Masks | Review

Althea is slowly expanding their range of products. They just released some new items and after using a few of them for several weeks now, I am ready to share with you all my thoughts.

Fasten your seatbelts ladies and gentlemen. Then get ready for one hell of a lengthy review.

The first beauty tool from A’bloom by Althea is the first meringue sponge puff designed which was inspired by baking meringue cookies. Achieve the perfect skin makeup with the lovely, cute pastel pink colour and cookie-shaped meringue puff.

The giant meringue puff will provide quick and smooth makeup application on wide surface of the skin while the baby meringue puff will provide fine and detailed makeup application on small surface of the skin with its pointed tips.

Makeup sponges are not new to me. I’ve been using them for 7 years now and it stands to reason that I’ve used a variety of shapes from different brands, local and international. These Meringue Puffs come in 2 sizes, a giant and baby versions. They expand when wet and can be used used either way. While these are not as soft as my usual makeup sponges, they get the job done. They blend and apply foundation like any average sponge. And let’s face it these puffs are so damn cute!

I do have some issues with these in general. First of all, I wish these are softer and less dense because these come off as a bit rubbery to me. Second, I find the sudden tapering of the sponge to a point really weird. I’m used to blending my foundation with the rounder part of a sponge, and the concealer with the tapered part but the shape of this puff makes it impossible to do so, which I guess brings in the importance of the smaller puffs. Third, these absorb way too much product, sheering out any foundation I’ve applied.

When I tested this, I used a medium-coverage foundation and if you can look closely at the photo above, the few bumps on my forehead, redness on my nose and dark undereye areas only had little coverage when I applied it with the puff unlike in the last pic when I used my usual sponge.

I hope that Althea can improve on these points I made because for the price they’re selling it — Php 100 for the Giant Puff and Php 140 for a pack of 3 Baby Puffs, these have the potential to be a real winner.

A’bloom BHA Blackhead Blaster is an easy and quick triple treatment for blackheads, whiteheads and dead skin for daily care.

It contains natural ingredients to help gently deep cleanse the pores and removing dead skin cells while preventing any irritations or redness on the skin.

They also have a BHA stick for blackheads, whiteheads and dead skin, called the BHA Blackhead Blaster (Php 200). It’s basically a black twist-up stick made with white willow bark extract, charcoal powder, apricot seed powder and tea tree leaf oil. I’ve never had anything like this before so this was a fun experience. This is applied on the oily areas of the face and for me, that includes the forehead, nose, cheeks and chin. It is then massaged into the skin and about a minute after, rinsed off.

This doesn’t cause any stinging or redness on me so I find it good for daily use. Again this gets the job done if you’re looking for a temporary fix to visibly shrink pores. It has a minty scent and an oily texture, kind of a balm really but it all washes off easily with water and doesn’t leave any greasy residue behind. I like how it also doesn’t dry out my skin and based on the before-and-after photo above, there is a significant improvement on my pores. Can you see what it did?

A’bloom refreshing skin masks pack have strong antioxidant with harmony of fruits and natural ingredients of plants that provides custom care solution for each skin type. The PH balancing helps strengthens skin barrier as well as re-charge the skin with fresh energy.

The fruit masks pack are made with strong antioxidant power of fruits and soothing energy of natural plants to care for each skin concern such as hydration, nutrition, whitening and blemishes.

The sheet masks are made out of 100% natural eco-friendly fabric to effectively deliver the efficacy of the rich fruits essence and the essences are formulated with reduced viscosity that are available in creams.

Next up are my absolute favorites among these new releases, their Fruit Masks. They have four varieties to them: Anti-blemish Peach Mask, Brightening Lemon Lime Mask, Nourishing Avocado Mask and Moisturizing Watermelon Mask. They all have scents to them, all fruity but they’re not too strong and I can tolerate them.

The sheet masks are quite thin with slits around the periphery. I find the fit to be actually good except for the mouth and eye areas which have pretty big holes. Their essences are all watery and only leave a little tackiness behind after patting them in. I love how everything is so hydrating and cooling to the skin. I would definitely repurchase them over and over because of how cheap they come (Php 20/pc. & Php 180/10 pcs.).

I truly hope one day, they’ll add more “fruits” to these masks. There’s are so many to consider with and so much possibilities when you think about it but they did good with these four as a start to get the ball rolling.

There you have it kids. What caught your interest among all these? Let me know in the comments below!
