I am so excited to write about this review today and share with you a new vitamin C product that has me completely head over heels. The company is from Thailand called, “To Make You Smile“, and they are a vegan and cruelty-free brand. Their very first product is this vitamin C essence that has been gaining a lot of attention in Instagram lately. Now let’s get into this post so I can tell you all about it.
AN ICONIC ESSENCE
Our unique formulated essence is fortified with the most powerful brightening ingredients, Pure Vitamin C including Niacinamide and Hyaluronic Acid. It helps visibly correct skin tone, reduce dark spots, and restore moisture balance. Skin appears brighter, smoother, more translucent and luminous.
Their Iconic Brightening Essence comes in a brown dropper-bottle containing 30 ml of product. The essence/serum has a milky color and smells delightfully of freshly cut lemon. This is the kind of citrus scent I can truly enjoy and my sensitive nose wholly approves. There are bits of white granules I can see clinging to the mouth of the bottle and even inside the dropper. I think those are vitamin C granules in the form of magnesium ascorbyl phosphate (MAP).
The essence/serum has a viscous consistency and feels quite sticky to touch. I never felt any kind of stinging sensation or notice any irritating reaction when I began using it. My skin may be quite used to ascorbic acid and stronger acids in general. I usually apply 2 drops on my face and wait for a few minutes to allow it to get absorbed by the skin before moving on to the next step of my skincare. Even if it has been absorbed, there’s still some tackiness left but what matters most is how well it plays with the rest of my skincare, meaning no pilling.
The next photo shows the full ingredients of the product. The star ingredients would be niacinamide, sodium hyaluronate, and MAP. MAP is vitamin C-derived, water-soluble and more stable. Its effects are similar to vitamin C but without the negative side effect of irritation. It is said to be the better option for those who has a sensitive skin. The essence also has bergamot oil which I’m a little wary of because it is a photosensitizer and can cause a reaction when exposed to the sun or UV. That said, sunblock is a must for protection.
I’ve been using this for about 5 weeks now and I’m seeing an overall brightening effect of my skin. Within a few days, its has given me that “glass skin” effect that I’ve longed to achieve. If you’re going to ask me whether it is effective in lightening up hyperpigmented acne marks, then take a look at my photo below. Most of my breakouts usually happen on the chin and along my jawline so I’m giving you my proof of how it works on post-acne pigmentation. There is a week-long gap between the left and the right photo and as you can see there is a significant lightening of the marks on my chin.
Other vitamin C skincare products usually gain a rusty color within the first month of opening and using them. But not this product. This vitamin C essence has not changed its color which is another thing to rejoice about, being that MAP is the form of vitamin C present. Having a non-oxidizing serum like this means I can use this product up until its last drop rather than throw it away because it has gone bad and is not effective anymore.
I am so grateful to TMYS for letting me try and review their product. Its effectivity and overall product quality rightfully deserves my TWO THUMBS UP! I can see myself repurchasing this over and over in the future. If you want to know more about the brand, their official IG account is @tmysthailand.
