Ever since its launch, the Laura Geller Baked Gelato Swirl Illuminator has been one of the highlighters I put down on my wishlist. I’ve been reading a lot of positive reviews about it for years now. And last year, I was finally able to get my hands on it but it wasn’t until recently that I started to play around with it.
Illuminate your natural beauty! This innovative hybrid texture applies like a sheer powder but feels like a cream, creating a translucent wash of luminous color that can be swept all over the face for a lit-from-within glow. A fresh 3-D design captures the look of our favorite Italian dessert, and lasts until the very last application.
The Baked Gelato Swirl Illuminator comes in a black plastic compact with a clear cover weighing in at 0.16 oz/ 4.5 g. The pan is designed in a swirling pattern. There are 4 available shades. What I have with me is Gilded Honey which is described as an effervescent caramel honey shade. It looks lighter than what I expected it to be on me. Online swatches show a medium gold with others looking intensely metallic. On my skin, it looks more like a light gold with soft shimmer.
The size of this product was the only thing that truly shocked me. I honestly thought this was a deluxe sample because it’s quite small. It wasn’t until I double checked it on their website that I knew for sure this was the regular, full-sized item.
The product description says it applies sheer. Never have I been more happy to say that a claim is false because it is not sheer. One swipe is rather pigmented, well, not as pigmented as some but it’s definitely not sheer and it can also be built up for a more metallic glow. The powder is really soft, smooth, creamy, and blends like a dream. On closer look, I detect some very fine golden micro particles when blended out but it doesn’t look glittery. It starts to fade on me after the 5th hour but a lovely sheen still remains for a lot longer.
If this is what Laura Geller describes as sheer then I’m very, very much interested to find out how an intense highlighter would look to them. This is my first Laura Geller product anyway so I want to try more from the brand. Aside from this shade, I also want to own Peach Glow and Charming Pink but the small size always stops me. Other than that, this baked product is as beautiful as its design.
This retails for $26. How about you guys, what do you think of this baked highlighter? Any other baked highlighters out there that are worth looking into?
