Hourglass Ambient Lighting Edit Surreal Light

Hey everyone! Christmas is just around the corner! Are you excited?

Anyway, I wanted to write the review for this Hourglass palette as soon as I got it but a few health issues interfered at the start of the month so I wasn’t able to take photos or test it out. But now, I’m recuperating at home and I’ve got enough time to pay careful attention to this palette.

HOURGLASS GETS SURREAL

The Review:

Surreal Light weighs 0.14oz/4g while the other four powders weigh 0.04oz/1.4g.

Next, let’s talk about the packaging. The marble design was a very nice touch and I believe it’s the most beautiful, tastefully-done palette this year. Unlike the packaging of their other palettes, it doesn’t attract any fingerprints and feels satiny smooth to touch rather than outright plastic. It’s still made up of plastic though.

All the powders are soft, finely milled and blends exceptionally well. The soft powders, however, often kick up excess product. With the exception of Surreal Glow which has a sheer finish, all of them appear on my skin with medium pigmentation. Surreal Light is a beautiful finishing powder and sometimes I think it can be used as a highlighter too because of the fine golden glitters. Surreal Bronze Light is the first bronzer I encountered from Hourglass and I simply love it because of the warmth it creates. Surreal Glow is a bit disappointing. It barely shows up on my skin and I have to apply at least 2 layers of it for it be noticeable. Surreal Effect gives me a cool to neutral barely-there pink blush which I prefer at the moment. And Surreal Strobe Light leaves the tops of my cheeks and nose with a pale shimmery gold highlight. When used altogether, these powders create a lit-from-within glow effect that makes it seem like I have a healthier skin.

Reviews for this palette have been mixed, but majority I’ve come across have been fairly positive. If subtle is your go-to look then this palette is made for you. But if you have a darker skin tone, then some of the shades might not work. If you ask me, I’d say this palette has points for aesthetic value and is quite handy for travel but honestly, it may not be for everyone. So list out the pros and cons if you’re thinking of getting this.

This retails for $80 bought via @sweets_16_ph. Still available in Hourglass online and Sephora. Who else bought this palette? What do you guys think?
