I have a friend from medical school who is addicted to korean beauty. She is also the one that convinced me to try a BB cushion as she swears by them and has quite a few in her collection. As for me, well, I don’t invest much in Korean makeup. I’ve had experiences in the past where I break out because of them. Anyway, Laneige recently had a sale on their BB cushions. I think it was time to find out what the fuss is all about.
A CUSHION THAT COVERS
Anyone who wears makeup knows how hard it is to find the perfect tone to match your skin. It was different with BB Cushion. There are four tones to choose from, and the formula looks so natural on skin. I loved the way it felt, as if it were my second skin. -Song Hye-kyo, actress
1. Upgraded brightening effect
Laneige White Plus Renew Line contains Melacrusher™ with skin brightening effects thanks to its melanin-decomposing properties. The Auto Sebum Brightening technology helps you achieve milky-white skin that’s free from breakouts.
2. UV protection
The strong SPF50+ PA+++ protects skin from UVA.
3. Cooling effect (reduces surface temperature by 4 degrees Celsius)Contains over 30% moisturizing agents with cooling effects (reduces surface temperature by 4 degrees Celsius) and Optimal Mineral Water that soothes irritated skin due to heat with instant relief.
4. Sweat-Resistant (up to 12 hours)
The sweat-resistant (up to 12 hours) formula is strong against sebum and perspiration, allowing it to stay on up to 12 hours with one light stroke. The highly elastic cushion powder in the formula keeps makeup from breaking down due to perspiration and sebum.
5. Smooth, soft finish and coverage
The high-coverage formula gives skin an even, natural, and smooth finish. The Cushion Powder reflects light in the same way healthy skin does while absorbing excess oils for a shine-free finish. (via Laneige)
The Laneige BB Cushion SPF 50+ PA+++ comes in your typical cushion compact with the BB cream in a saturated sponge and a separate one-of-a-kind puff with a slight rubbery feel to it. I was quite hesitant to use this puff but I found myself loving it very much! It doesn’t absorb the BB cream all that much and it deposits the product evenly on the skin surface. The shade I was matched to is No. 11 Light Beige, which according to the website, is a light beige with pink undertones for pale skin that can use more liveliness. It is also the lightest in the range and completely matches my skin tone. Included in the box is a refill containing 15g of product.
Compact and refill
Initially, I wanted to get the Pore Control variety for its semi-matte finish but the shade No.11 was unfortunately, out of stock and the sales assistant assured me that a mattifying setting powder on top of the regular BB cushion will cancel out any dewiness on my oily skin. Without a setting powder though — yikes!— the finish just looks too oily on me.
Here’s another thing I like about this product. Usually by midday, with my usual foundation, I always get some creasing and clumping right on the bridge of the nose where my eyeglasses sits. It’s somewhat annoying because it’s what everyone else sees the moment I remove my glasses. However, it’s a different story with this base product. I do get some creasing on the nasal bridge but it’s barely noticeable even up close. It also has a medium buildable coverage and a light floral scent that’s not too overpowering.
Can you see the swatch? It’s an exact match to my skintone!
As far as BB cushions go, I actually like this one from Laneige. It maybe due to the fact that it’s my first BB cushion and I have nothing to compare it to at the moment. Also, they might be pretty awesome in general hence, the huge following. But for this review, I give it a TWO THUMBS UP!
A BB cushion compact from Laneige with a refill retails for Php 1,950. For more details on this BB cushion, you can go to Laniege’s website. As for my dear friend, go follow her on instagram if you’re also a korean beauty addict @kimchiandsnails.
