NARS Almeria Blush | Review

Nars Almeria blush4

This week has been one hell of an adrenaline rush after the holiday break. Especially as the Dermatology Department of my hospital just opened a satellite clinic in Sta. Ana, Manila. From transporting clinic materials, equipment and furniture (heavy grunt work, indeed — my arms are quite sore) to coordinating with the directors and administrators of the 2 hospitals, the tasks fell on me first.

Now it’s time for a little break. For my first product review of the year, kiddos I bring you the newest blush from the Nars holiday collection.

Nars Almeria blush

LACED WITH EDGE

Cutting-edge color—anything but straightlaced. For Holiday 2014, François Nars projects a bold new design for the future femme. Decoding the thrill of seduction, this captivating collection exposes a full range of colors and textures with dramatic dimension.

The custom packaging adapts architectural designer Chris Kabatsi’s digitally-rendered Nebula print into a dynamic yet delicate depiction. The intricate web of black gloss grips the signature soft-touch packaging in a modern take on lace.

The Review:

Nars Almeria blush2

The packaging of the recent holiday collection comes in a limited edition, abstract-like lacey embossment pattern on top. The compact in my opinion is better than the usual matte and rubbery Nars compacts we’re all used to. For one thing, it’s smoother and more matte. Another is it feels less rubbery compared to my other Nars blushes I have on hand. Maybe that means less dirt and dust attraction. I’ll have my fingers crossed on that last part but all in all, I like it.

Almeria is described as a tan rose however, looks more like a deep rosy-brown with lots of red undertones with a satin finish on me. It looks like it has some shimmer on the pan but it doesn’t translate at all on the skin. The powder is soft, and finely-milled and I noticed no chalkiness. It blends easily on the skin and can be built up quite nicely. The blush has a great pigmentation, a little dusting of the brush on the pan is all I need to deposit the colour on my cheeks. It lasts me for at least 7 hours before I notice it fading from my cheeks.

On fair to light skin tones, it’s easy to go overboard with a colour this rich. I recommend a light hand for application as I experienced “clown cheeks” after my excitement to try it preceded any level of caution soon after I unboxed it. As in, I was dipping my brush and applying it on my cheeks all in a space of less than 20 seconds. I realised I only needed a little bit of the product for it to show up on me. It’s a good thing since this can actually last for a long time.

Retails for Php 1550 in selected Rustan’s Department Stores in the Philippines.

  2. This color is awesoooome. The pinks I have are usually in the cotton candy family so something a bit more earthy is great for toning down. But given how pigmented it is and how light my skintone is, I’m not sure it won’t look harsh on me.

  3. Gorgeous color! LOL at the clown cheeks! I’ve had that happen recently when I’ve gone back to a more pigmented blush and thought “Uh ohhh….” when I look at my reflection! Congrats on getting the new clinic opened – hopefully things will calm down a bit for you now and you can give your biceps a break! 🙂
