Sampling The Goods: Hourglass Veil Mineral Primer

Hourglass Veil Mineral Primer

I think I mentioned before that I have a whole lot of samples I need to go through. I can’t remember when I said that in a post but that was a long time ago. More than 3 months, I think. I kept procrastinating and storing them all in a pile somewhere until finally my sister noticed how there were a lot of mini tubes and packets in my corner of the room.

So I resolved to go thru them all starting with the one product in the pile I was most excited to use: the Hourglass Veil Mineral Primer.

FYI, it came with the Ambient Lighting Palette but I just jumped into the palette and promptly ignored the primer.

The Promise:

This silky, weightless and multipurpose primer goes beyond traditional formulations by concealing redness, minimizing the appearance of pores, fine lines and wrinkles, and shielding skin with Broad Spectrum SPF 15 protection. In addition, it repels water to keep your make up looking freshly applied all day long.

FEATURES AND BENEFITS
• Extends the durability of any foundation or powder.
• Minimizes the appearance of visible pores, fine lines and imperfections.
• Conceals redness (even rosacea) to create an even skin tone.
• The weightless formula is not greasy, tacky, pearlized and it won’t ball up
• The unique texture is fluid, airy, silky and cushiony.
• Offers Broad Spectrum SPF 15 with mineral-derived physical sunscreens, Titanium and Zinc Oxide.

The Review:

Hourglass Veil Mineral Primer2

I’m going to come out and say it straight. Among all the other primers I’ve tried, this is magic in a bottle.

I apologize for being late to the bandwagon but when I started using it late last month, I suddenly started breaking out like crazy. I thought it was because of the silicones in the ingredients — inactive ones, by the way — so I immediately stopped using it. (But it could also be that certain time of the month.) I googled and found out that a minority have indeed experienced break outs. After my skin cleared from a probable hormone-induced acne, I gave it a second chance.

I’m very happy I did.

The mini glass bottle is not the most hygienic I admit so what I do is scoop out some product with the spatula it comes with onto the back of my hand. I dab small dots on my cheeks, forehead, nose and chin then spread them evenly until the skin has absorbed it. It feels very much like a silicone-based primer, smooth and with a satin-powdery finish.

Now let’s get to the good stuff. Normally, I don’t worry about getting greasy during the first 4 hours after I’ve put on my makeup, primer included. With the Hourglass primer, I stay shine-free for about 6-7 hours before I have to blot. (It also depends on which foundation I use. With the Koh Gen Do, I can go the whole day without blotting.) Come night time, my foundation still looks as good as when I had first applied it albeit somewhat shiny. It minimized my pores to an extent and made the redness around my nose disappear. I can actually walk out the door with just this and some finishing powder.

The only downside is its price. Is a whole bottle worth the bucks I have to shell out? I honestly don’t know. At this point, I’m undecided but let me get back to you on that one once I’ve finished this sample.

The Veil Mineral Primer retails for $18 (0.33oz), $52 (1oz) and $72 (2oz) from Sephora and Hourglass online.

Let me know what you think.

  1. Wow! 6-7 hours of shine-free living is pretty amazing! I have one of these too but haven’t used it in ages. Will definitely try it again after reading this! Thanks! 🙂
