Velvet Lips Made Easy With The Lime Crime Velvetines

Hello, hello! It’s such a nice day out, don’t you think? Despite the rainy season, today had been a beautiful sunny day. Sigh. Oh and I think I finally found a matte lipstick that I can tolerate.

It’s not an everyday occurrence that I’m going to rave about a matte lip color. My dry lips will take what they can and fortunately for them, that includes the Lime Crime Velvetines.

So for this post, I’m excited to share with you my thoughts and experience with the 2 Lime Crime Velvetine shades I got  just recently.

The Promise:

Ground-breaking formula that goes on liquid and dries completely matte. Touch-proof, transfer-proof, long-wearing and utterly addictive!

Ingredients: Isododecane, Trimethylsiloxysilicate, Cyclopentasiloxane, Kaolin, Dimethicone, Hydrogenated Polyisobutene, Synthetic Beeswax, Silica Dimethyl Silylate, Flavor (Aroma), Tocopheryl Acetate, Ethylhexyl Methoxycinnamate, Disteardimonium Hectorite, Propylene Carbonate. The Review:

The Lime Crime Velvetines’ packaging is damn gorgeous and whimsical, if you want me to get creative. It’s housed in a lightweight frosted tube with a red cap embossed with roses and the typical Lime Crime unicorn logo on top. It comes with a doe-foot applicator, small enough to deliver color with precision on your cupid’s bow and to fill in the lips. But my favorite part is when I open the cap and take a whiff of the smell — oh-so delicious like vanilla frosting. Yumm-eh!

Pink Velvet is a bright fuchsia pink with warm undertones while Wicked is a deep burgundy red. One swipe of the applicator is enough to deposit full-coverage of the liquid lipstick. They start off with some glossiness but later, after at least 2o seconds or so, dry down to a matte finish. It feels suprisingly light on the lips which is unusual for a matte lipstick, even one in a liquid form. Most of the time I steer clear from them because aside from the dryness, I don’t fancy that heavy feeling I associate with most matte lipsticks. I was expecting a bit of stickiness on application too but there was none.

As I was wearing them the first time, I drank and ate as much as I could throughout the day to test their longevity. There was some transfer on the cup I was drinking from — just a teeny, tiny, wee bit. There wasn’t much change or fading noticeable with the color after every meal I had gone through except for the most inner part of my lips.

It’s neither drying or hydrating but it accentuates lip lines and clings on the drier spots on my lips although it doesn’t make it worse. Wicked, however, emphasizes those dry areas more than Pink Velvet does. Both shades have an amazing wear time of 7 hours before I had to reapply on the middle portion of my lips. The painful part comes when it’s time to take it off. It doesn’t budge with water and you’ll need an oil-based cleanser to remove it. Even then, you’ll need to rub it vigorously. Like I said, painful.

Ack! Don’t mind those dry spots! I was having a bad lip day.

I sincerely apologize if I was not able to take a photo of Wicked on my lips. It’s one of those colors that gave me a hard time with the camera. I will try though. I’ll update this post once I have captured a decent picture of me wearing it.

For the first time, I am actually having a pleasant experience with a matte lipstick. It’s a transfer-proof, water-proof lipstick that lasts me pretty much the whole day. I’ve got to give them a two thumbs up, most especially Pink Velvet.
