Hourglass Ambient Lighting Blush in Radiant Magenta, Is It As Radiant As The Hype?

Hourglass Ambient Lighting Blush Radiant Magenta

I’m a big fan of the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powders. They are the best finishing powders I have ever tried, like ever!

Naturally, when Hourglass released the news about their new Ambient Lighting Blushes, I gave in to the inner kid in me, like someone who is expecting a birthday gift, and jumped for joy.

Like all blush fanatics, I wanted to collect them all but the price for one alone is enough to put a stop to that dream. Instead, I purchased only one and from there, will see if they are indeed worth collecting.

The Promise:

Discover a new way to blush: This groundbreaking hybrid combines the customized lighting effects of Ambient Lighting Powder with a spectrum of breathtakingly modern hues. The result is a natural radiant finish with seamless, soft-focus and buildable color.

  • Unlike traditional blush, which tends to be flat, Ambient Lighting Blush uses Photoluminescent Technology to exhibit depth and dimension.
  • The airy, lightweight powders contain optically transparent particles that amplify the colors to a multi-dimensional level—effectively reinventing the way you view blush.
  • The hand-made powders are formulated using an advanced miscelare technique—which means “to mix” in Italian—creating the perfect balance of pigment and powder, and no two look alike.
  • The cutting-edge formula means that its full potential is only displayed on application.

The Review:

Hourglass Ambient Lighting Blush Radiant Magenta2

The Hourglass Ambient Lighting Blush comes in a compact very much like their Lighting Powder counterparts only smaller and golden in color. I love the packaging, very high-end and sleek, except for its attraction to fingerprints. Mine has dozens already scattered on its surface.

Radiant Magenta is described as a golden fuchsia blush combined with Radiant Light for a summer glow. It doesn’t really translate as fuchsia on the cheeks but comes off as a slightly warm-toned pink. Not as pigmented as I would have liked but then again, these are promised to have a “natural radiant finish”. Subtle, okay yeah, I’m digging that. The blush has the same texture as the Lighting Powders, soft and finely milled although a bit powdery and chalky for my taste. There are also very fine shimmers on this blush that are barely noticeable on the skin. I think those are the ones responsible for the glowy, radiant look. But it blends easily despite the dry texture and is buildable with a sheer to medium wash of color. It doesn’t look powdery at all on the cheeks. I quite like to build it up with two swipes of my blush brush because of the warmer weather we’re having here.

This blush lasts on me and my oily cheeks for around 6-7 hours. I have NARS blushes that last on me longer that cost less and has more product.

So I’m asking again, is this worth the hype? For something worth $35, I expected a lot more. Will I get the other shades? Very doubtful.

The Hourglass Lighting Blush retails at Hourglass online and Sephora.

Any of you tried the new blushes from Hourglass yet?

      • Already did but I didn’t use it. Gave it to my mom coz she’s a lot fairer. It didn’t quite show up on me, but it did on her, she’s a lot fairer. Thinking of getting mood exposure, the one that looks like bacon 😛

  1. I recently bought this a couple weeks ago. I totally love it. I usually layer it with another blush and use this to soften the edges. These blushes are pretty subtle but a great if you just want a natural cheek color.

  2. Hey Nikki, sorry to hear about the lasting power! I’d definitely like my blush to last beyond that! I am really tempted to get one for myself to see if it’s worth the hype, but I can’t seem to pick a shade that I want and don’t own already!

  3. I was intrigued by the promo packaging for these (who wasn’t), but was disappointed when they all kind of turned out to be warm toned. To be fair, I haven’t been to Mecca Cosmetica and swatched any of them yet (if they’re even out here), but my motivation has been kind of low 😛

  4. NARS all the way!!! Haha! Sad to know that it didn’t last that long. 😦 I have oily skin and I doubt this’ll last longer on me. Pretty packaging though! I’ll give that to Hourglass. 🙂
