For the Love of Lipsticks (a.k.a The Lipstick Tag)

Thanks to the lovely Shari of The Misty Mom, I got tagged to do the one thing I haven’t done in a while — taking a look at my lipstick stash.

1. How many lipsticks do you own?
I’ve already given away a few I don’t think I’ll be using anymore, majority of them Maybelline Colorsensational ones. Without the glosses and pencils, it’s somewhat 60+. Yikes! It doesn’t help that I always want more.

2. What was the first lipstick you owned?
I believe it was a Maybelline Water Shine Lipstick which have long been discontinued in favor of the Colorsensational. I don’t recall the particular shade  but I remember it to be a glittery, rosy brown — very glittery. I was all about the glitter and shine back in high school. And even then, my hair and I had hated the stickiness of glosses.

3. What is your favorite lipstick brand?
It’s a tie between Givenchy and Dior. (Notice the underlined word. Lipstick. Change it to “lip product” and we’re heading straight down to a lengthy discussion of favorite lip balm, lip gloss and lip pencil.)

 

4. What is your most worn lipstick?
MAC Cosmo. We’ve been through thick and thin, that one. It was one of my first MAC lipsticks and as I was a nude lover early on, it has become near and dear to my heart.

 

5. What is your favorite finish?
Somewhere between a matte and a glossy finish. Comfortable and hydrating but with a long-lasting wear, at least 4-5 hours. I just hate drying formulas and frequent reapplication.

6. What was the last lipstick you bought?
It’s the Tom Ford Lip Color Sheer in Paradiso. Sigh. It’s disappointing on some level. The color is beautiful, don’t get me wrong. But, man, does it dry my lips out after 2 hours.

 

7. How many lip products do you currently have in your bag?
Okay, my kit? It’s a very, very complicated pouch. I’m currently going back and forth between houses right now so I carry a lot. On the weekends I stay in Alabang where my stash is holed up and on weekdays, I’m in Makati. Every weekend, I rotate products I have on hand and usually throw in a couple I might have in need for in case there’s an “emergency”. You never know what you might need. Back to the topic, I have with me… 4 lip balms (the usual Alba Botanica and Maybelline Baby Lips, the Dior Lip Glow –it’s a balm, right? Also the Revlon Matte Balm in Unapologetic), 3 glosses (2 Maybelline Lip Polishes and NARS Dolce Vita), 2 lip pencils (MAC Ablaze and NARS Rikugien) and 3 lipsticks (MAC Mineralize Lipstick in Elegant Accent, MAC VG Rihanna and Chanel Melodieuse). A total of 12 lip products. Ahh, shoot. What can I say? I like some variety.

 

8. What is favorite red lip color?
Currently, its the NARS Future Red from the Guy Bourdin collection last year. I’m always on the hunt for the perfect red and nowhere near satisfied with the ones I have. I have my eye on the NARS Satin Lip Pencil in Majella and Chanel RA in Pirate. Which do I buy first?

 

9. How do you store your lipsticks?
Let me tell you the evolution of my storage. In the beginning, I bought the 6-compartment plastic container from Muji which filled up quickly…

…so I bought an additional small 2-drawer acrylic case.

It has long since evolved to the larger acrylic drawer, also from Muji.

My lip glosses and pencils occupy a drawer of a much larger acrylic storage I bought from Miss Bella Ph.

FYI: I always keep the boxes. (I only unboxed them for your viewing pleasure. But just in case I’ve decided to give some of them away, I think it’s more presentable if the tubes comes in boxes.)

10. Which lipsticks are you currently lusting after?
A WHOLE LOT. But my top 3 are the following. I shall enumerate.

• By Terry Rouge Terrybly. $50 a piece. If you’d like to see swatches, Karima of Shameless Fripperies has them. Drool worthy!
• Surratt Automatique Lip Crayon. It’s not a lipstick but it is a lip product.
• Charlotte Tilbury K.I.S.S.I.N.G. Lipstick. At the moment, only sold in the UK.
